Citizen's Police Academy

Have you ever wanted to see what being a police officer was like? Does it sound fun, interesting or exciting? The Big Rapids Department of Public Safety offers this exact opportunity with its Citizen’s Police Academy. Come see and learn what the day to day job is like for a police officer. The program is four weeks in total meeting once a week in the evening.

The Citizens Police Academy engages the students to think and feel what it is like to be a police officers. The students will gain a knowledge of the day to day events that take place, the common issues that face law enforcement and the personal demands that are placed on police officers as they conduct their job.

The Citizen’s Police Academy does have an application process and specific requirements. Please see the downloadable application. The basic requirements for attending the class are:

  • Student must be of good moral character
  • Student must be 18 years of age
  • Student must not have any felony or violent misdemeanor convictions
