Mecosta County Youth Academy

The Big Rapids Police Department and the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office are excited to announce the 4th Annual Mecosta County Youth Academy. 

The Mecosta County Youth Academy is a one-week program open to boys and girls, ages 12-14.  It will be held from July 15-19, 2024. During the academy, 16 students will be introduced to the roles and responsibilities of first responders in our area. 

Topics to be discussed are:

  • Teamwork
  • Leadership
  • Physical Fitness
  • Defensive Tactics
  • Firearms Safety
  • First aid
  • Fire Safety

Students will learn from instructors from the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office, the Big Rapids Police Department, the Michigan State Department of Natural Resources, the Big Rapids City Fire Department, and MANY MORE!
