Budget Information

The City prepares an annual Operating Budget and a six year Capital Improvement Plan. Copies are available at the links below, the City Clerk's Office in City Hall, or at the Big Rapids Community Library. Budgets are adopted on a basis consistent with generally accepted accounting principles, State statutes and the City Charter.

In accordance with Charter requirements, on or before the first meeting in May, the proposed budget is presented to the City Commission by the City Manager for review. The City Commission holds a public hearing on the proposed budget at the first Commission meeting in May. The budget is required to be adopted by the first Commission meeting in June.

Public forums are held during City Commission meetings in March and April of each year to receive community input on the budget. A public hearing on the proposed Operating Budget is held in May.
