Items must be placed out after 6:00pm Sunday for Monday pickup
ALLEY PICKUP:  place polycarts in the alley with the lid facing the alley
STREET PICKUP:  place polycarts at the street with the lids facing the street

All Polycarts should be at least 2 ft apart and away from anything that could obstruct the mechanical arm on the truck used for dumping the polycarts (mailboxes, etc).

GARBAGE/TRASH
must be bagged and placed in the trash polycart. Bagged garbage reduces litter within our community.  

RECYCLABLES must be clean, dry, and placed in the recycle polycart.  Recyclables do not need to be separated and cannot be bagged.  A list of what can be recycled is available here

The recycling pickup schedule is changing EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 1, 2020.  For recycling collection only, the City of Big Rapids will be separated by State Street with the west side of State Street picked up one week, the east side of State Street the next. 

The west side of State Street will be "A" week collection with pickup beginning December 7.
The east side of State Street will be "B" week collection with pickup the next week,  December14.

BULK TRASH/CLEAN UP ITEMS
will be picked up in the same location as trash. Weekly bulk pickup is
limited to:
  • two FREON FREE appliances OR
  • two pieces of furniture OR
  • four additional bags of refuse 
  • mattresses MUST be wrapped in plastic 
Refrigerator take back programs are available in our community, call Menards, Lowes, or Consumers Energy directly to make arrangements.

YARD WASTE is picked up the first Monday in April and goes through the last Monday in November.
Yard waste consists of:

  • grass clippings
  • leaves
  • twigs, small branches
    • branches must be no larger than 2" in diameter, no longer than 4 ft in length
    • must be tied in bundles weighing no more than 50 lbs
    • maximum of four bundles 
Yard waste should be placed in brown lawn and leaf bags, or a separate trash container clearly marked "Yard Waste." Yard waste bags and containers shall not weigh more than 50 lbs per container.  Yard waste will not be taken in plastic bags.

Yard Waste bags are available in the Treasurer's Office (5 bags for $2.25).
Stickers to designate a container for "Yard Waste" are available in the Treasurer's Office at no cost. 
Yard Waste pick up is in the same location as Trash.
